Christina Makes the Bookish Rounds is

you're hosting. For more information, visit the first CMtBR post.
((Sorry
about the flub! This was meant to go up yesterday, but I fell asleep before I
had finished, and you saw quite the unfinished version (blaaah). Anyway, CMtBR is going up today instead of Lush on Thursday.))

Are you excited about Allegiant? The official synopsis has just been released.
Andrea Cremer on the set of Veronica Mars? Whut? Does this mean other YA authors get to be there, or is in some sort of cameo or? o.O

I'm starting to think that New Adult literature has gained mainstream acceptance.

Have you seen this infographic about the lack of diversity in children's lit? Yikes! At least there was some diversity in the Man Booker Prize nominees.
The blogging sphere has collided with the publishing industry in some dramatic ways lately. For a recap of some plagiarism issues, see this post from Diana Peterfreund. For the actual incidents, see here and here. And for the shitfest that's been happening between reviewers and a certain author, see this post (which has now, btw, made its way onto STGRB) and another GR review (this time with the cover artist and someone associated with the author).
Cover Reveals:
Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano (INT version)
(some of these aren't new new, but they are being featured for the first time *here*)
(Look, world, aren't you glad I missed this post yesterday? So many fabulous cover reveals happened in the interim period. And look at these Harry Potter goodies!)

Other:
Most Featured Book: Nothing I haven't already featured - not seeing a *huge* book pop up everywhere. I have, however, seen All Our Pretty Songs by Sarah McCarry appear a bit more frequently. Sarah runs the blog The Rejectionist, so I think her online presence is partially contributing to this. Have you read the book? Did you enjoy it?
Recent Recommended Read: Truthfully, don't have much here. I skimmed-read Unbreakable by Kami Garcia and I'm currently listening to The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen via audiosyncbooks.com. Why skim (after ~60 pages)? Well, Unbreakable seems, to me, like City of Bones meets Supernatural. Plot twists and a lot of the techniques (minus the snappy one-liner humor and imagery/simile loaded writing) are similar to those used in The Mortal Instruments (i.e. sees something strange, attack on mother, not safe, has a larger role, goes to secret society HQ with hot boys, etc.), and they're fighting demons but with a different secret society and history (probably why publisher referred to The Da Vinci Code). From Supernatural come the identical twin brothers who rescue (and fall in love with) Kennedy and creepy scenes like a poltergeist attack and a house breathing out shards of glass. It sounds cool, but I felt kind of "meh" about the book--could just be my personal preferences, given the good reviews it's gotten so far. So, my recommendation would probably be The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner.

about 'em next week.
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea isn't on my tbr list (I think it's not on my GR account either) because I'm not into horror that much and there're only very few selected horror books I want to read and this isn't one of them although most of the readers seem to love it. I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED ABOUT ALLEGIENT!!! I have ben putting reading Insurgent off for so long so I'll re-read Divergent and get to read Insurgent right before and I'm good to go and read the final book. I love that it's dual POV. We'll see if I love it when I read it lol.
ReplyDeleteI really like Cress's cover. I DNF-d Cinder for at the time being, but I'll pick it up someday:) Harry Potter FTW!! :)
I loved Jenny's choice of heroines and that she didn't go the original route and pick Katniss or Tris or Rose--the obvoious choices. I had only read two of the books she chose them from and I really need to get to the rest of them:) Planning on reading some of them soon. Shadow and Bone for instance;)
Oh that trailer for Between The Devil.. is so awesome. I finished reading that one this week and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the shout outs to my posts, Christina!
ReplyDeleteThat Hogwarts pic is stunning!! I also <3 Cress. (have yet to start the series though....)
ReplyDeleteOh, Allegiant is going to be told in dual perspective. Interesting...
Thanks for mention! :)
I looooooove the cover from Cress! So freaking excited for this book <3 And those Harry Potter editions *drool*
ReplyDeleteSeriously, the Cress cover outshines them all. Of all the fairy tale representations, I think it's clearest - and my god, I love the blue and red and white and gold all together. And I am also considering buy more HP books ha, just for those covers o.O.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am excited for Four's perspective. Cress IS beautiful and yesss, Cayce, get on that series!!! :) Also, no problem.
ReplyDeleteI love the writing. I'm not a hugehugehuge horror person either because I'm not a hugely visual reader and horror freaks the bleepin' bleep out of me (I'm usually the one with the purse in front of her eyes during those movies) BUTTT April Genevieve Tucholke has some serious talent. If you don't read the book or have on your TBR, just check out the quotes section later. I'm sure you'll see some great excerpts :).
ReplyDeleteYou haven't read Insurgent yet?!? This is like you putting off The Indigo Spell and reading Dimitri's POV. Bad, Siiri, bad :P. Still, I hope that back to back reading will work out for you - some people have said that it's made their expectations worse o.O.
You DNFed Cinder? Whuh. Why? HP FTW EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK.
Which two books did you read? YES READ SHADOW AND BONE. The only ones I'd read from her list were Dani O'Malley & Alina. Soon: Elisa and Deuce. But otherwise, don't know the others. It was refreshing not to have those top 3 choices.
Agreed! Loved the music in the trailer and red waves. Glad that you enjoyed it--wasn't the writing just fabulous? And no problem :).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out <3
ReplyDeleteGreat roundup, lots of links that I'm about to explore now. And those HP covers, *swoon*, my life won't be complete until I own these!
Wow -- amazing post, as always :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so awesome you gather all those stuff! I'm trying to go back to making weekly recaps, but I'm a terrible procrastinator. Thanks for linking to my post, though! Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteOh wow The 100 will be a TV show? I got that book at BEA I hope it's a good adaptation - haven't read it yet though but it was my WoW pick a while back and I could see it being a really great TV series based on the blurb. I also missed the plagiarism thing wowzers. I was there for the whole "trick bloggers to read your book" deal though. I was one of the (9) tour organizers for that book - quickly cancelled that O_O
ReplyDeleteThis post is epic and I really wish I could comment on everything but it would take forever haha. I just want you to know it's one of my favorite posts to read! Seriously! It's like a recap of the blogging and book world everyone should read! :)
You are responsible for about 17 of the tabs I have open. I am not exaggerating. :P
ReplyDeleteNo problem :). AND YES OMG, I am on a book buying ban. HP COVERS, why you so cruel with your beauty?
ReplyDeleteLol, I am definitely a procrastinator. I fell asleep for the first time while trying, in vain, the night before to get this up. (But I mean, to some extent, how much *can* be done ahead of time a weekly round-up?). And no problem! Looking forward to reading your short story :).
ReplyDeleteMuahaha, this is a part of my evil plan for world domination. I start with internet tabs. You do not want to see what I have planned next o.O.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy! :)
Yeah! The 100 on CW. I'm expecting lots of shirtless, hot boys and drama and cool graphics. It's definitely one of my anticipated reads/shows & I hope that you enjoy it :). Ahhh!!! Sorry that that trouble came to Xpresso Book Tours. (Also, honestly, lately it seems like there's at least one huge plagiarism issue a month.)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Giselle! That means a lot to me :).
I'll be up all night visiting all of these links. I did make it a point to view the VA-related items already, though. :) I had already read the Adrian chapter from Fiery Heart, but *how* did I miss that Dimitri POV?!? And the moving poster for VA...I always love those. I'm getting really pumped for that movie!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea of a meme! The synopsis of Allegiant has me crazy as well as the cover for Cress! I am so relieved that it matches the other two covers- it'll look nice on my bookshelf. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, chick! <33
I still haven't finished my rounds through the links or my emails o.O. Lol, I would've missed the Dimitri POV if it weren't for Siiri of Little Pieces of Imagination and Goodreads--hope you enjoy it though! And me too! I hope VA will live up to both of our expectations :)
ReplyDeleteYesss, and I've seen some reviewers speculate that the fourth cover will be an apple (but better than the Twilight one of course) or snow with blood. All will match in that lovely red and blue and white theme :).
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I had no idea Allegiant had a synopsis! I will check that out very soon. Thanks for featuring all the covers too. My head's been so buried in the sand recently that I completely missed all of them. Not to mention all the recent plagiarism issues... Crazy! It seems like there is always something negative happening in this community, which is pretty disappointing. Thanks for all the helpful links, Christina!
ReplyDeleteVery recently released, and as usual, it's not *much* of a synopsis. Very vague, but I suppose they need to keep it vague if they're doing a 2 million first copy printing and don't want to spoil the book. And I agree -- there does seem to be a lot of negative occurrences, but with a community so large, it's not too surprising. Thanks for stopping by, Sam. I'm off to comment on your Burning Sky review soon :).
