Today's bookish rounds are HUGE because I was on vacation last week and did not include cover reveals or blogger posts... and also skimped on some articles. I hope y'all enjoy!
Publishing:
Rights Report 1, 2:
** A Perilous Journey of Danger and Mayhem - Christopher Healy (MG trilogy adventure adventure set in the U.S. during the age of industry and invention, inspired by the works of Jules Verne. Walden Pond Press).
** The Bubble Wrap Boy - Phil Earle (a coming-of-age story about a Chinese-American boy named Charlie Haan, who is convinced that everyone is good at something, and he just needs to find out what his something is. When a newly revealed passion leads Charlie to the biggest confrontation of his life, he learns that he's not the only one hiding a massive secret. Delacorte Press, spring 2016).
** Peas & Carrots - Tanita S. Davis (a white teen named Dess is placed into foster care with a black family while her mother is incarcerated. Knopf, 2016).
** Serpentine - Cindy Pon (The first book of the duology chronicles the tension and struggle among mortals, demons, and gods in the kingdom of Xia as it tells the story of Skybright, who worries about her growing otherness as she falls in love with a mortal boy for the first time. September 2015, Month9Books).
** A Handful of Stars - Cynthia Lord (Set during a harvesting season among the blueberry barrens of coastal Maine, small-town veteran Lily, and Salma, a Hispanic migrant worker, forge an unexpected friendship. Scholastic, 2015).
** Unbreakable - Robin Talley (follows a teen couple – Gretchen, who identifies as a lesbian, and Toni, who identifies as genderqueer – as they struggle to stay together during their first year in college, despite the growing rift caused by distance and Toni's shifting gender identity. Harlequin Teen, fall 2015).
** Bleeding Earth - Kaitlin Ward (In the story, 17-year-old, Lea, and her girlfriend, Aracely, fight for their survival and sanity in a world turned chaotic after the mysterious appearance of blood covers their streets. Egmont USA, fall 2015).
** Your Voice Is All I Hear - Leah Scheier (a contemporary YA novel about a teenager who struggles to maintain her sanity when her boyfriend is diagnosed with schizophrenia. Sourcebooks Fire, April 2015).
Not Up Yet:
** Digby 101: A Crash Course in Juvenile Delinquency and Other Good Deeds - Stephanie Tromly (Digby, pitched as “reminiscent of Sherlock, Juno, Say Anything, and The Breakfast Club,” is about a sarcastic girl who moves to a new town, and the witty, brilliant, and weirdly compelling Digby, who pulls her into one dangerous – and comedic – situation after another. Kathy Dawson Books, fall 2015).
** Story Thieves - James Riley (The first book in the MG series is about shy Owen, whose life is turned upside down when he sees his classmate Bethany climb out of a book in the library. Bethany turns out to be half-fictional and is searching for her missing fictional father in book after book. Owen agrees to keep her secret, but only if she takes him into his favorite book in the uber-popular Kiel Gnomenfoot series. February 2015, S&S/Aladdin).
** Contemporary YA - Jennifer Mathieu (The as-yet-untitled story is told in dual perspective between a boy recently released from his kidnapper and the unlikely girl who helps him in the aftermath. Roaring Brook Press, fall 2016).
** Backyard Witch - Ron Koertge and Christine Heppermann & ills. by Deborah Marcero (Young MG series about three best friends and a mysterious visitor who appears for curious adventures just when they need her most. The first title, Backyard Witch, is scheduled for summer 2015, Greenwillow).
** MG biography of Hillary Rodham Clinton - Cynthia Levinson (Balzer + Bray, winter 2016).
Nothing from Last Week is up either, so I'm moving on from those titles.

Recent Recommended Reads: You can read my review of The Art of Lainey - Paula Stokes (The Art of Lainey was adorable & loads of fun. Cute and fluffy and recommended for Kasie West, Stephanie Perkins, and (at least from what I've read about her work) Liz Czukas fans). I also read Guy in Real Life - Steve Brezenoff, and you can expect a review for that next week. Am also in the middle of a read-along with Jessie from Ageless Pages Reviews for Don't You Forget about Me - Kate Karyus Quinn, which is proving just as creepy and original as Another Little Piece. On that note, please y'all don't be afraid to initiate a read-along with me (comment on this post, or future ones; old ones are harder for me to keep track of). Some of my most awesome blogger friendships have involved in-depth discussions of different books and I'd love to get to know you better that way too!

Which articles did you like best? Did I miss any news? Did you host a cover reveal or discussion that I should have posted about? A giveaway? Leave the links, and I'll either edit this post or post about 'em next week.
Thanks so much for including my post in this round-up! I'm totally digging the cover for Starry Night, Dating Down and the Beginning of Everything. I suppose I have a thing for handwritten/drawn stuff?
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that Mary E. Pearson is having a new book out soon so I really enjoyed the sneak peak! Thanks again for doing such a detailed roundup! Found some great links as usual!
Thank YOU for stopping by! I'm so glad to see you've returned to blogging -- I missed your return & the explanation last week, but have been thinking about tweeting to see how you were (but told myself to wait for some reason...?). And yes, I totally get that - sometimes it seems like the handwritten/drawn stuff gets the most detail/attention and thus looks the best (IMO) :).
DeleteThe Kiss of Deception is fantastic! If you enjoyed the sneak peek and are eagerly anticipating the book, I can send you my ARC of it? Let me know! :)
I can't wait to read Talon! The last dragon book I read was Seraphina and I loved it, also I've always loved Kagawa's writing! So thanks for letting me know about the excerpt! Also how amazing is the cover to Endsinger! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteMe too probably - on the last dragon book I read. Unless having dragons play a role in the plot counts ha. I hope you enjoy Talon :) and yes, the covers for Jay's series are all SO beautiful.
DeleteI am REALLY not a fan of the new Lauren DeStefano covers. Though I've yet to start on that series, so I guess I don't have a right to be too angry about it. ;) A Thousand Pieces of You looks brilliant, on the other hand! That's definitely my favourite of all the recent cover reveals.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you enjoyed The Art of Lainey! I am off to read your full review now. :)
WHAAAAt. Really? They're one of my favorite covers this week (A Thousand Pieces of You probably also among them). I love how all her covers have a simplistic elegance to them that is also symbolic of the contents. I too haven't read the books, but I really want to. I feel like there was another cover redesign recently that you disliked... why are you a rebel about that, Sam ;)?

I love the redesign!!
ReplyDeleteI am really excited about the new Mockingjay photos!
Thank you :D :D. It's just in time for BEA.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Mockingjay photos excite me too, though I also really, really need to reread the book because for one moment I was like: Finnick was there too?
