When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.

A lot of thanks for the giveaway. I bought this book, but I have to claim the money because never arrived to my home. And twenty days is much wait for a book, when the online seller said that The casual vacancy arrives in 7-12 days to my house (and I'm really sad about that) I hope win this giveaway because I'm dying for read it.

ReplyDeleteWell, I don't Know exactly what about this novel excites me, when I knew the publication I said me that I had to buy the book. But the argument sounds great, and a Spain friend, which is very critical when he read a book enjoyed it.
I've been enjoying British literature more and more lately. The way the social aspect takes over the town sounds so engaging. Plus, it's J.K. Rowling...nuff said.

I know *hangs head in shame* but I watched all the movies for Harry Potter and my girl friend hated some things that got missed and changed so I wanted to wait until it was all done before I tried. What excites me the most about this book is of course the fact that it's the first book after Harry Potter for J.K Rowling and I simply love her, I know it has nothing to do with HP but I still want to read it because I know that J.K.R's writting style and imagination are wonderful, I feel I won't be disappointed.

ReplyDeleteMostly I loved how this novel got you to imagine people complexly. As a nerdfighter, that's something that is important to me, and while you certainly feel revolted by the antagonists and the passive members of this book (and even some of the more positive characters), you understand where they come from and their motivations. It's so elegantly crafted and really gets into the minds of the characters and their motivations.

ReplyDeleteI'm mostly excited because I saw a picture of the very first page, and I was rolling the entire time I was reading it. I don't know if the rest of the book is like it, but the first page is narrated by Jo herself, and it was filled with so much humor, and personality. And Potter references.

ReplyDeleteWe are all familiar with J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' books. That alone is why I am excited and/or fascinated with this new novel for adults. I definitely enjoyed reading the 'Harry Potter' books, and, now, I would like to read this one that targets the adults now. Thank you for having this giveaway! ReplyDeleteTruth be told? I'm just so freaking curious. I know, there are so many people who have awesome reasons, like wanting to read something outside of their comfort zone, or being in love with Rowling -both things that apply to me, too- but the reason that Rowling wrote something after HP is actually why I hesitated to buy the book.
ReplyDeleteIt's like when Tennant stopped being Ten and then had other projects and I couldn't watch them, because he was still the Doctor, and how could he have moved on? XD
BUT on the other side, I loved the HP series, and I usually don't like MG. She is so creative, and inspiring, which makes me want to know what story she had in her mind for such a long time that she ended up publishing it. :) (I'm not making any sense, am I?)

I would love the chance to feel that way again with a new discovery from Ms. Rowling.

ReplyDeleteI think what excites me the most about this book is being able to see J.K writing on a complete different genre. I guess I want to see if her writing as good as I always believed it was, if her plots still as complex and unique, if her characters still aa fleshed out.
J.K has been one of my favorite authors since forever, so the idea of reading something so utterly different from her makes me really excited!
Actually I am just curious to see how JKR presents an adult read. The story is not something I would normally pickup, but with her writing it I want to know where it goes ;) Thank you for sharing.
